Ex-Browns GM Ray Farmer interviewing for vacant Texans GM job

Former Cleveland Browns GM Ray Farmer has emerged as one of the candidates to replace Brian Gaine as the Houston Texans’ general manager.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network first reported the Texans’ interest in Farmer.

Gaine was fired on Friday after just 17 months on the job. It was a surprise move from new owner Cal McNair, who took over control in Houston last year when his father Bob passed away.

Farmer, 44, was the Browns GM in 2014-15 after serving as the assistant GM in 2013. His tenure was pockmarked by mistakes, notably “Textgate” and the 2014 first-round draft debacles that were Justin Gilbert and Johnny Manziel. Farmer has been out of the NFL since being fired the day after the 2015 season ended.
