Ex-Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas arrested on felony vehicular assault charge

Former Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was arrested Wednesday and charged with vehicular assault, driving without proof of insurance and reckless driving, according to Denver police.

Vehicular assault is a felony, while the other two charges are misdemeanors.

Thomas, 31, rolled a vehicle in a car crash earlier this month in the Denver area. He was driving 70 mph in a 30-mph zone, according to police. Thomas and the two passengers in his vehicle were taken to a hospital after the crash; one of them had suffered serious injuries.

Thomas was selected by the Broncos in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft out of Georgia Tech. He spent the spent the first eight and a half years of his career in Denver and ranks second in franchise history in receiving yards (9,055) and receiving touchdowns (60), trailing only Rod Smith (11,389; 68).

Denver traded Thomas to the Houston Texans in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick last season. He played in seven games with the Texans before tearing an Achilles. Houston released Thomas on Feb. 12.
