Ex-Broncos TE Matt LaCosse signing with Patriots

The New England Patriots plan to sign former Denver Broncos tight end Matt LaCosse, according to ESPN’s Field Yates. Terms of the contract are unknown at the time of this writing.

LaCosse (6-6, 255 pounds) entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois with the New York Giants in 2015. He spent time with the Giants and New York Jets from 2015-2017 before joining the Denver Broncos late in the 2017 season.

LaCosse dressed for 15 games in 2018, starting five times. He finished the year with 24 receptions for 250 yards and one touchdown. In New England, LaCosse will join a tight end room that includes Rob Gronkowski and Stephen Anderson.

With LaCosse leaving and Jeff Heuerman also a free agent, Denver is thin at tight end. Jake Butt and Troy Fumagalli have shown potential but neither player has proved he can stay healthy.

The Broncos may bring in a tight end through free agency and the team seems almost certain to address the position in the draft.
