Ex-Broncos safety Darian Stewart signs with Buccaneers

Former Denver Broncos safety Darian Stewart has signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, his new team announced Tuesday. Terms of the contract were not revealed but it is believed to be a one-year deal.

Stewart (5-11, 214 pounds) signed with the Broncos in 2015 after having spent time with the Baltimore Ravens and St. Louis Rams. He quickly emerged as a starter in Denver’s secondary and helped the team defeat the Carolina Panthers 24-10 in Super Bowl 50.

Stewart, who was voted to the Pro Bowl after his second season with the Broncos, totaled 254 tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and nine interceptions during his four years in Denver.

Stewart has recorded 454 tackles and 11 interceptions in his career.

The Broncos waived Stewart in March, opting to go with Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson as the two starting safeties in 2019. Stewart, 31, will likely compete with Mike Edwards and Jordan Whitehead for playing time in Tampa Bay’s secondary.
