Ex-Broncos OLB Shane Ray signs 1-year deal with Ravens

Former Denver Broncos pass rusher Shane Ray signed a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens on Friday, according to multiple media reports. Terms of the contract are not yet known.

The Broncos decided not to pick up Ray’s fifth-year option last year, allowing him to become a free agent this spring. Before signing with the Ravens, Ray visited the Seattle Seahawks, Oakland Raiders and Indianapolis Colts.

Denver lost both of their backup pass rushers to free agency this year: Ray and Shaq Barrett. Ray had to wait until after the draft to land a deal but Barrett received a one-year, $5 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March.

The Broncos selected Ray in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft out of Missouri. He never quite lived up to his draft status in part because he missed time with multiple wrist injuries. He totaled 94 tackles and 14 sacks during his four years with the team.

Now that Ray and Barrett have moved on, Denver will likely lean on Jeff Holland, Malik Reed and Dekoda Watson as the new rotational pass rushers behind starters Von Miller and Bradley Chubb.
