Former Denver Broncos inside linebacker Todd Davis is signing a one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings, according to multiple reports.
Davis (6-1, 230 pounds) is a 28-year-old linebacker who entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Sacramento State with the New Orleans Saints in 2014. After bouncing back and forth between the Saints’ practice squad and active roster, Davis landed with the Broncos midway through his rookie season.
Davis went on to win a rotational role on defense and helped Denver win Super Bowl 50 following the 2015 season. He won a starting job the following year and served as one of the team’s leading tacklers from 2016-2019.
Davis was a good run defender but struggled in pass coverage with the Broncos. He allowed 77.2% percent of passes thrown against him to be completed last season, according to ProFootballReference.com. Denver saved $4.5 million by cutting Davis before the season started. Josey Jewell has replaced him in the Broncos’ starting lineup.
In Minnesota, Davis will join a linebacker rotation that includes Eric Kendricks, Ryan Connelly and Eric Wilson.
