Ex-Broncos LB Brandon Marshall signs 1-year deal with Raiders

Former Denver Broncos inside linebacker Brandon Marshall has signed a one-year deal with the Oakland Raiders worth up to $4.1 million, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday.

Marshall was born and raised in Las Vegas and played college football for the University of Nevada. Given that the Raiders are moving to Vegas soon, that probably made them an attractive destination for the linebacker (though he would need to sign an extension to get to play in Sin City).

Marshall, 29, became a free agent earlier this month after the Broncos declined his 2019 contract option. When healthy, he was a five-year starter in Denver and a key member of the team’s Super Bowl-winning squad in 2015.

Marshall has earned $22,289,681 in his career, with a large part of that ($12,553,000) coming from the Broncos in 2016, according to Spotrac.com. The eighth-year defender has totaled 419 tackles and 6.5 sacks since entering the league as a fifth-round draft pick with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012.

The Raiders recently signed Vontaze Burfict but the team apparently wanted to add more depth at the position. Marshall will likely compete for a starting job in Oakland. He will face Denver twice in 2019.
