Ex-Broncos DT Domata Peko ‘would love’ to play for Chargers

The Chargers put an emphasis on the interior part of the defensive line this offseason, re-signing Brandon Mebane and Damion Square, along with drafting Jerry Tillery and Cortez Broughton.

But would the team be willing to add another body to the depth chart? There’s one player that would have some interest in joining Los Angeles and that’s former Broncos nose tackle Domata Peko.

Denver chose not to re-sign Peko in March, allowing the 34-year-old interior defender to become a free agent. He recently visited the Lions in hopes to get a deal done with Detroit. If the two parties are unable to, Peko would like to play in the City of Angels.

“I would love to play here in L.A. I’m all about L.A., grew up in Whittier. So, dude, if the Rams come calling or the Chargers, I would love to do that,” Peko said, per NFL Media’s Grant Gordon.

The former Michigan State product has been consistent over the course of his professional career. He started in 30 games in Denver over the last two seasons after starting out with the Bengals. Peko has recorded 585 tackles and 20 sacks in his career.

Peko, 34, likely wouldn’t cost the Bolts that much change to bring him in, given his age. But even though they could use another interior defender, primarily a nose tackle to play behind Mebane, it’s questionable whether or not general manager Tom Telesco would pull the trigger.

L.A. appears to be content with how their defensive front is looking right now. Justin Jones, who is entering his second season could see some snaps behind Mebane along with Square.
