Ex-Broncos CB Bradley Roby to sign 1-year deal with Texans

The Houston Texans plan to sign former Denver Broncos cornerback Bradley Roby to a one-year, $10 million contract when NFL free agency officially begins Wednesday, according to NFL Network’s James Palmer. The deal has been confirmed by multiple media outlets since Palmer broke the news.

Roby (5-11, 192 pounds) entered the league as a first-round pick out of Ohio State with the Broncos in 2014. He spent the first four years of his career as Denver’s No. 3 cornerback behind Pro Bowlers Aqib Talib and Chris Harris.

After the Broncos traded Talib to the Los Angeles last offseason, Roby was named a starter. He was healthy for 15 games in 2018 and recorded 50 tackles and one interception. Denver deemed he was not worthy of an expensive long-term extension, allowing him to hit free agency.

Roby’s contract with Houston is worth just $1 million less than Kareem Jackson’s average yearly salary with the Broncos ($11 million). Jackson’s three-year, $33 million contract with Denver will become official Wednesday.

Given that Jackson is (arguably) a better cornerback than Roby, it appears that the Broncos made the right decision. Jackson can also play safety, making him a more versatile option than Roby.
