Ex-Bristol Rovers boss Paul Tisdale speaks out on Joey Barton after threatening legal action

Bristol Rovers have removed footage of a Joey Barton pre-match press conference from their website following the threat of legal action from Paul Tisdale.

Barton succeeded Tisdale in charge after the former Exeter City and MK Dons manager was sacked in February, and ahead of Rovers' defeat to Sunderland on March 27 he labelled the work of his predecessors as "negligent".

"If they were doctors, they should certainly be struck off for what's gone on here before," Barton claimed. "I could show you the footage of the training sessions. They're a farce. It wasn't done correctly.

"Two-and-a-half-hour sessions on a Friday — what chance have the lads got? It's like having a 15-round spar the night before you have a 12-round scrap."

An angered Tisdale responded with the threat of legal action against Barton, and Rovers have subsequently removed the video from their YouTube channel and website.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Tisdale indicated the matter has been resolved.

The 48-year-old said: "There was no basis for these allegations and I’m pleased that the club has decided to take Joey’s comments off its website.

"I wish Joey and the club all the best."

Tisdale finished the season in an advisory role at League Two Colchester United, and in recent weeks he has been linked with the England under-21s job.

Bristol Live understands the former Gas boss is also in the running for at least one managerial vacancy in League Two, meaning he could be up against Barton on the touchline next season.
