Newcastle United line up move for ex-Bristol City star once wanted by Aston Villa

Former Bristol City defender Joe Bryan may yet see his stay in the Premier League extended with Newcastle United reportedly chasing his signature.

The ex-Robins left-back joined Fulham in August following their promotion to the top flight via the play-offs.

A £6m signing, Bryan was among 13 new arrivals at Craven Cottage as the West London club splashed £100m in a bid to guarantee Premier League football for the foreseeable future.

However, the Cottagers have fallen straight back down to the Championship after a disastrous season, leaving a number of those costly new signings in the lurch.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle are willing to offer Joe Bryan a reprieve.

Rafael Benitez was believed to be interested in bringing the Bristolian to St James' Park last year but the Magpies were pipped to his signature by Slavisa Jokanovic's side.

Now Fulham are down, the Newcastle boss is said to be keen to capitalise on their misfortune and keep Bryan in the Premier League.

Left-back has been a problem area for the north-east giants in recent seasons, and Bryan offers the versatility of being able to operate at left-back or left wing-back.

Bryan made 30 appearances in all competitions last season, providing one assist and netting once in the EFL Cup.

Should the transfer go through, Bristol City should receive some windfall as part of the deal.
