Ex-Bolton Wanderers, Reading and Millwall midfielder training with League Two Scunthorpe United - reports

Former Bolton Wanderers midfielder Jem Karacan is currently training with fellow League Two side Scunthorpe United, according to reports.

The 31-year-old spent more than a season with the Trotters after joining Wanderers in the 2016/17 season when the club was in League One.

He joined in mid-March 2017 and scored once in five appearances for Phil Parkinson's side as the club returned to the Championship.

That summer, he penned a one-year deal with Wanderers and played 18 times in all competitions that season, scoring once, before departing at the end of the campaign when the option of a further year on his contract was not exercised.

After leaving Wanderers, Karacan signed a short-term deal with Millwall and has been without a club since the summer of 2019 after leaving Australian A-League side Central Coast Mariners.

Now, according to BBC Radio Humberside, Karacan is understood to be training with Scunthorpe, whom Wanderers play tomorrow evening at Glanford Park.

There is currently no word on if a deal will be done.

Karacan came through the ranks at Wimbledon and Reading, making 175 appearances for the Royals between 2007 and 2015.

During his time with Reading, he also had loan spells away from the club at both Millwall and Bournemouth.

After leaving Reading in 2015, he joined Turkish club Galatasaray, but made only a handful of appearances for the club and was loaned out to fellow Super Lig side Bursaspor in February 2016 until the end of the 2015/16 season.

Karcan, who has represented Turkey at youth level, left Galatasaray at the start of January 2017.
