Ex-Bolton Wanderers, Leeds United, Liverpool and Wolves goalkeeper joins Stoke City on short-term deal

Former Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Andy Lonergan has found a new club and joined Championship side Stoke City on a short-term deal.

The 37-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Premier League champions Liverpool over the summer.

Lonergan spent three seasons with Wanderers after joining from Leeds United in 2012.

He made a total of 62 appearances between 2012 and 2015, the majority of which were in the Championship.

A statement from the Potters read: "Stoke City have furthered strengthened their goalkeeping resources by signing Andy Lonergan on a short-term contract.

"The vastly experienced 37-year-old was a free agent after spending last season with Liverpool. He has also served the likes of Preston, Leeds, Bolton, Fulham and Wolves.

"The Potters made a move for Lonergan after Niki Mäenpää, who joined the Club last week in a short-term deal, picked up a hand injury in training."

Lonergan came through the ranks at hometown club Preston North End and made a total of 229 appearances for the Deepdale club.

His time at North End also included loan spells away at Darlington, Blackpool, Wycombe Wanderers and Swindon Town.

He departed in 2011 and joined Leeds United for a season before being bought by the Trotters.

After leaving Bolton, he had spells at Fulham, Wolves and experienced a return to Leeds in 2017.

Lonergan then spent a season at Middlesbrough before moving to Anfield in the summer of 2019 and picked up a Premier League winner's medal.
