Ex-Bolton Wanderers, Leeds United and Liverpool goalkeeper approached by West Bromwich Albion

Former Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Andy Lonergan has been approached by West Bromwich Albion over a potential return to the Championship club, according to reports.

The 37-year-old spent three seasons with Wanderers after joining from Leeds United in 2012.

He made a total of 62 appearances between 2012 and 2015, the majority of which were in the Championship.

He later had spells at Fulham, Wolves and experienced a return to Leeds in 2017.

Lonergan then spent a season at Middlesbrough before moving to Anfield in the summer of 2019 and picked up a Premier League winner's medal with Liverpool.

After leaving Jurgen Klopp's side, he joined Stoke City on a short-term deal, before later joining West Brom in January, with the club relegated from the Premier League last season.

Lonergan was released by the Baggies earlier this summer, but now The Athletic reports that the Hawthorns outfit have approached the goalkeeper over a possible return.

Lonergan spent the second half of the campaign on the club's staff, but require an emergency third choice back-up stopper.

The move could about due to the club's wish to farm out Josh Griffiths to lower down the EFL somewhere to gain match experience, like his did last season at Cheltenham Town.
