During his seven-year stint with the Buffalo Bills, Jordan Poyer slowly became one of the NFL’s premier safeties. Alongside the gifts of Josh Allen, Poyer was one of the bigger reasons for the Bills’ resurgence over the last half-decade. And even though Poyer is now a Miami Dolphin, he still seems to think the world of his new rival quarterback.
According to NFL.com’s Kevin Patra, Poyer decided to finally say goodbye to Buffalo by gassing up Allen. While commenting on his time in Western New York, Poyer called Allen the NFL’s top quarterback.
Those are very interesting choice words for someone who now shares a team with Tua Tagovailoa.
“Seven years out here, man,” Poyer said. “I loved every moment of it. Thank you so much for allowing me to grow as a person, as a player. Teammates, coaches, everybody, man, I loved every moment of it. Sorry we couldn’t get it done, but you’ve got the best quarterback in the league. I know that might go viral, but it’s OK. I get to see y’all twice a year. I can’t wait. You guys come down to Miami. I get to come back to Orchard Park one more time.”
I’m sure Poyer means every word he says about Allen. While most would probably still pick Patrick Mahomes, Allen does have a worthy case as the 1B quarterback to the man in Kansas City. And a former teammate will always glow a bit more. Even still, it’s kinda funny to hear Poyer sing the praises of Allen as he simultaneously tries to get over the hump with an AFC East division rival. Because now, well, Allen is technically standing in the way of Poyer’s potential personal success.
Talk about an awkward but still warranted compliment.
