Ex-Bears QB Doug Flutie goes for Hail Mary on 'Dancing with the Stars'

April 26--Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Former Bears quarterback Doug Flutie was sacked from "Dancing with the Stars" Monday after dancing a disappointing Bollywood-style routine.

Flutie, 53, and professional partner Karina Smirnoff posted the lowest combination of viewer votes and judges scores. The elimination was announced after Flutie, who played for the Bears from 1986-87, performed to "Jai Ho!" from the 2008 film "Slumdog Millionaire."

"It's been an unbelievable experience," Flutie said.

Flutie, known for his bedazzled tops on the show, showed some improvement in his moves from the first week of competition.

"That was a very, very catchy number," judge Bruno Tonioli said after the Bollywood performance.

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba said Flutie was a joy to watch, though his timing seemed off.

"You were kind of the opposite of everyone else, but you look like you were having a good time," Inaba said. Flutie said he was disappointed as judges gave him a score of 21 out of 30 points, which earned him the bottom spot on the leaderboard.

For the week's "famous dances" theme, former Chicago meteorologist Ginger Zee and Val Chmerkovskiy recreated the music video for Janet Jackson's 1986 single "Nasty."

Zee, who worked for WMAQ-Ch. 5 from 2006-11, was praised for knowing the steps but criticized for not showing enough attitude.

"You just have to punch it much, much more," Tonioli said. The pair earned 24 out of 30 points.

Eight couples are left to compete for the mirror ball trophy on Season 22 of "Dancing with the Stars," which airs 7 p.m. Mondays on ABC. There will be a double elimination next week, show hosts announced.
