Ex-Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal discharged from hospital after heart attack

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been discharged from Evercare Hospital in Dhaka after suffering a severe heart attack during a domestic cricket match. The 36-year-old collapsed while captaining Mohammedan Sporting Club in a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League fixture on Monday, experiencing acute chest discomfort.

Tamim was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he underwent stent placement surgery the same day before being transferred to a larger facility for further observation.

"After monitoring his condition, we have decided to discharge him today," Dr Shahabuddin Talukder informed the press on Friday. "However, he must follow a strict rehabilitation programme and make lifestyle changes to aid his recovery."

Tamim, who scored more than 15000 international runs across all formats, remains the only player from Bangladesh to have scored centuries in Tests, ODIs and T20Is.

Bangladesh's health ministry official, Abu Zafar, had earlier confirmed that Tamim will be sidelined from cricket for at least three months. "If everything progresses well, he can return after that period," Zafar said.

He also emphasised the importance of Tamim quitting smoking, a known risk factor for heart attacks. "He must stay away from it and strictly adhere to medical advice," he added.
