Ex-Arsenal star claims Invincibles were honeytrapped before Champions League tie

Former Arsenal defender Pascal Cygan has claimed Lokomotiv Moscow tried to honeytrap them before a Champions League match.

Arsene Wenger's side travelled to Russia in the Champions League group stage in September 2003.

Arsenal came away with a goalless draw, despite the best attempts of their hosts to distract them.

Cygan claims a group of models were sent to the Arsenal team hotel on the eve of the encounter.

"When we entered our hotel in Moscow there were 10 Russian top models waiting for us," the Frenchman told La Voix du Nord .

"They were seated in front of the bar."

"We were later told that they had been there to tire us out during the night before the match.

"We didn't lose, and as far as I remember none of our players was stupid enough to fall into the trap.

"That was just as well, given the situation at that time.

"Stories about players' private lives used to appear regularly in the papers."

Arsenal would end the season unbeaten in the Premier League and reached the last eight of the Champions League.

The Gunners picked up a 1-1 draw with Chelsea but were stunned in the second leg at Highbury, with Wayne Bridge scoring a late winner.

Cygan would stay in north London until 2006 before spells with Villarreal and Cartagena.
