Ex-Arsenal man issues stark warning to Callum Hudson-Odoi after he fails to take England chance

Callum Hudson-Odoi had a night to forget for England on Sunday evening as they finished off their Euro 2020 qualifiers with a 4-0 win over Kosovo.

With qualification for next year's tournament guaranteed following the drubbing of Montenegro in midweek, Gareth Southgate made a couple of changes to his team and gave the Chelsea youngster an opportunity from the start.

Impressing for the Three Lions prior to the Achilles injury that he suffered in April, the 19-year-old just couldn't seize his chance in the team and was replaced on the hour mark by Marcus Rashford.

Hudson-Odoi didn't see that much of the ball during his time on the pitch, but when he did he lost the ball way too easily on occasions and didn't run at the hosts enough to cause them problems down the flanks.

Not guaranteed of a place in the Chelsea team given the options available to Frank Lampard, the youngster has an awful lot to do between now and next summer to ensure that he's in the squad for the tournament.

Speaking on ITV at half-time, Lee Dixon sent a stark warning to the player by stating that he doesn't have that many chances to impress in an England shirt before Southgate names his 23-man squad.

"There are only two games left before the squad is announced," he said.

"He needs to just run at his full-back. He has to attack more rather than playing the ball inside."

Fellow pundit Roy Keane was also critical of the attacker and outlined what he needed to do in the first half.

"Hudson-Odoi hasn’t taken his chance yet." he said

"He isn’t stretching the defence and has given the ball away too cheaply. He needs to step his game up in the second half."
