Ex-Aberdeen star Shay Logan racially abused in street brawl with punter

Ex- Aberdeen star Shay Logan suffered racist abuse while trading blows with a man in a street brawl.

The 34-year-old exchanged punches with the unidentified male outside a chippy in the Granite City.

It is understood trouble flared when Logan clashed with a group of men while he was out with team mates on Friday night.

Violent footage shows the defender dropping to one knee before recovering to gain the upper hand over his rival.

An onlooker can be heard shouting a vile racist slur while the pair throw punches.

His opponent then drops to both knees as Logan rains punches down on him.

Another man stepped in to split up them up after they stumbled from the pavement to the middle of the road.

Logan’s name can be heard being shouted numerous times by the person thought to be recording the incident.

The defender, who now plays for Scottish Championship team Cove Rangers, posted a facial image of himself on Instagram on Saturday captioned “Chat **** get banged” - a quote made famous by Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy.

Last night the photo had been removed.

It is understood Logan has told club bosses that the fight started after a man head-butted him.

Logan starred for the Dons between 2014 and 2021 and still lives in Aberdeen, it is believed.

A source said: “Shay was out meeting some team mates in the city centre.

“He got some verbal abuse from a group of men from across the street and bumped into them again later on in the night.

“He’s told Cove Rangers that one of them head-butted him and he defended himself.

“There’s a couple of versions of events being told - but what is clear from the video is Shay is being racially abused.”

Logan claimed he was racially abused by Clyde fans when Cove Rangers beat them 1-0 earlier this year.

He wrote on Twitter: “When you upset Clyde fans because your mum chose a black man.”

Police Scotland last night said they had no record of the street brawl but a club source said officers were investigating the incident.

Logan, who also played for Man City and Brentford, signed for Cove Rangers last year.

The Aberdeenshire club, which won the League One title last season, last night declined to comment.
