Ewan McGregor thanks Edinburgh crowd after 'great' few days meeting fans at Comic Con

Scottish actor Ewan McGregor has been pictured at Edinburgh Comic Con as the Trainspotting and Star Wars star had the crowd of movie lovers on their feet during his arrival on stage.

The festival, held at the Royal Highland Centre at Ingliston is a two-day celebration for movie and comic book fans across the country to congregate and dress up as some of their favourite characters, as well as witness exhibitions and meet some of the industry's finest acting talents.

This year, the inclusion of McGregor, an industry favourite, meant fans were eager to secure their ticket and watch the renowned actor on stage for a special appearance, as well as get the chance to take a picture with him and get an item signed.

Photos from the event show hundreds of fans cheering the arrival of McGregor, dozens holding up coloured lightsabers from the Star Wars movies which seemed to leave the actor, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi, with a beaming smile across his face.

Behind and in front of the stage were dozens of Star Wars characters dressed up for the occasion. "It meant the world to me, it's great to be back," said McGregor when asked what it felt like to be back in his home country. "I got a couple of days off to visit my mum and dad back home in Crief then I came here to Edinburgh and have been so happy to be here with you all. It has just been a great couple of days, I can't speak as I've been speaking to people all day," he added.

Joining McGregor at this year's event were Star Wars legends Anthony Daniels, Jimmy Vee, Angus MacInnes and Denis Lawson. Other awesome guests include The Vampire Diaries and The Originals stars Candice King, Daniel Gillies, Michael Malarkey, Kayla Ewell, and David Anders.

They were joined by Fantastic Beasts star Dan Fogler, Hollywood legends Alicia Silverstone, and Billy Zane, The Walking Dead star Ross Marquand, Buffy the Vampire star James Marsters, and Scream actor Roger L. Jackson. The Hobbit's Graham McTavish is joined by Lord of the Rings star John Rhys Davies, The NeverEnding Story stars Noah Hathaway and Tami Stronach, plus so many more.

Also in town for Comic Con was Matilda and Mrs Doubtfire actress Mara Wilson, who after snapping pictures of both Arthur's Seat and Calton Hill, said: "I spent six hours wandering around Edinburgh yesterday and I am still not entirely convinced this place is real."

Standard entry tickets ranged from just £8, all the way up to £156, with some of the options including early entry, weekend passes and normal general admission. The other option included photograph entry, which must be purchased alongside a standard entry ticket.

That means some lucky fans had the opportunity to take a photo with the man himself, Ewan McGregor, and get one thing autographed as well.
