Ewan McGregor’s Star Wars lightsaber and an R2 droid sell at action for £120,000 each

Ewan McGregor’s Star Wars lightsaber and an R2 droid from the film franchise have sold for £120,000 each at the world’s biggest auction of movie memorabilia.

The live auction – which took place over two days on Tuesday and Wednesday – saw a total of £4.3million spent on more than 900 pieces of iconic movie and TV props.

Classic Star Wars items were among the auction’s biggest sellers, with the blue lightsaber used by Obi-Wan Kenobi in 2005 film Revenge of the Sith selling for £120,000.

A full-sized, remote-control, light-up R2-S8 droid, from 2018 Star Wars spin-off film, Solo: A Star Wars Story, sold for the
same price.

Not far behind was a full-sized Stormtrooper Blaster, used in 1983 film Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, which sold for £78,000.

Meanwhile, a mechanical Alien head, used in Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien, and a werewolf transformation bust from 1981’s American Werewolf in London, each sold for £50,000.

Stephen Lane, CEO of Prop Store, which ran the auction, said: “After what has been an uncertain and unpredictable year, we are absolutely thrilled with the results of our seventh annual Live Auction.

“It is clear that the love for the classic films has not diminished and we saw some spectacular results across both days.

“We are looking forward to seeing what our next event in Los Angeles next spring will bring.”
