Ewan Brown's grieving parents pay tribute to their 'best of men' son

Choking back tears, the heartbroken family of Ewan Brown told how he was the “best of men” who has gone too soon.

The search concentrated on the Sandyford and Jesmond Vale areas after Ewan was last seen in Heaton on Monday morning.

But the devastating discovering came when Ewan’s body was found in the Byker area.

Ewan, of Spital Tongues, Newcastle, was a keen musician and touched hearts across the globe

And he showed how he had a big heart as he helped those less fortunate than himself.

Now, in an emotional statement, his mum and dad, Annette Ellis, 57, and Iain Brown, 60, along with his younger brother Axl, 19, have opened their hearts to tell of their talented son and sibling as they face planning his funeral.

The statement said: “Ewan was much loved, by all his family and wide circle of friends, which extended across the world from the UK to Japan.

“He was a keen and talented musician, experimenting with a variety of music from acoustic guitar to Chip Tune music. He touched the hearts of every individual he met.

“He was a talented artist, with a degree in animation, a maker of short films and outstanding stencils.

“He was a passionate advocate for freedom and equality for all, particularly for the downtrodden; often stopping in the street with a kind word and a gift of food for the homeless.

“Always politically aware, he struggled against injustice wherever he found it, he was a genuine believer in the basic goodness of his fellow man.

“He was a kind, gentle man, who was thoughtful and generous to a fault.

“He was a natural comic, and he always knew exactly what to say.

“He was a clever and bright young man, who coped outstandingly bravely with his deafness, and played an active part within the deaf community.

“Above all, he was the best of men, truly loved and well remembered.”

After Ewan went missing, posters appealing for sightings of him were also stuck to signposts in the search area.

But the news emerged that his body was found in the Ouseburn area of Byker.

Scores of messages flooded in to the ChronicleLive Facebook page offering their sympathies.

Helen May Green posted: “I’m so sorry. This is devastating news. My heart goes out to all the people this beautiful soul touched. My love to his friends and family. X”

Sarah Thompson said: “Absolutely heartbreaking my thoughts go out to his friends and family xx”

Tracey Brodrick said: “Heartbreaking news.. God bless this young man and his family . Xxx”

Jaime Scully Curry wrote: “Poor bloke thinking of the friends and family you left behind. God bless you.”

Ewan’s aunt, Carol Alevroyianni, shared the devastating news in a public post on Facebook in the early hours of Wednesday.

She wrote: “Beyond sad to share the news that Ewan’s body was found tonight. Thanks everyone who helped trying to find him.

“Ewan was always trying to put the world to rights and fix our broken society in his utterly unique and innocent way and I thought he’d always be there putting himself in harms way to makes things better - because of course ‘right’ and ‘fair’ often are at odds with norms and rules.

“I just can’t believe we all couldn’t by pure force of will make this a happy ending. Be kinder and speak out for the underdogs .. be more Ewan x”
