Evil Dead Rise star Lily Sullivan hints at franchise return

evil dead movie

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Lily Sullivan, star of Evil Dead Rise, addressed the possibility of returning to the franchise in a new spinoff. The highly anticipated fifth film in the Evil Dead series, directed by Lee Cronin, captivated audiences with its standalone storyline centered around two estranged sisters, Beth (played by Sullivan) and Ellie (played by Alyssa Sutherland). Their family reunion takes a terrifying turn when they stumble upon the Naturom Demonto and are confronted by malevolent Deadites.

Following the critical acclaim and commercial success of Evil Dead Rise in spring 2023, reports surfaced about a new spinoff in the works, with franchise creator Sam Raimi slated to produce. Sullivan, in her interview, revealed that there have been numerous conversations about her character's future, indicating exciting possibilities. Although nothing has been confirmed yet, she expressed her enthusiasm for whatever unfolds, acknowledging the unpredictable nature of the industry.

While Sullivan couldn't disclose specific details about her potential return, it's worth noting that the Evil Dead Rise ending left room for her character's involvement. The film concluded with Beth and Ellie's daughter, Kassie, escaping the building together, setting the stage for a continuation of their story. Considering the enormous success of Evil Dead Rise, grossing $147 million at the box office, it appears logical for the upcoming spinoff to explore Beth's journey further.

As for the spinoff itself, French filmmaker Sébastien Vanicek is set to co-write and direct alongside Raimi. Vanicek, known for his indie horror movie Vermin, expressed his desire to create a visceral and challenging film, promising audiences a truly unsettling experience. He hinted that his take on the Evil Dead franchise will be ruthless and cathartic, with plans to commence filming by late 2024 or early 2025 and a targeted release around Halloween 2025.

Although details about the spinoff's plot and potential returning characters remain undisclosed, the anticipation for what's to come is palpable. With Evil Dead Rise already captivating audiences with its gripping narrative and horrifying thrills, fans can't help but speculate about the next chapter in the series. The success of the latest installment reaffirms the demand for more Evil Dead content, prompting excitement and eagerness for the new spinoff.

In the meantime, fans can continue to enjoy Evil Dead Rise, streaming exclusively on HBO Max. The dark fantasy/horror film, written and directed by Lee Cronin, takes viewers on a terrifying journey as the two sisters battle against the forces of evil and fight for survival. With its intense storyline and impressive performances by Sullivan and Sutherland, Evil Dead Rise has solidified its place as a standout entry in the beloved franchise.

As we eagerly await more news about the Evil Dead spinoff, it's a perfect time to delve into Sullivan's other talented offerings. She recently starred in the thrilling movie Monolith, further showcasing her acting prowess. Sullivan's versatility and dedication to her craft make her a rising star to watch, and her potential return in the Evil Dead universe only adds to the anticipation surrounding her career.

As the horror genre continues to captivate audiences worldwide, the Evil Dead franchise remains a pillar of the genre, delivering spine-chilling entertainment and memorable characters. With the promise of an upcoming spinoff and the involvement of esteemed creators and actors, fans can rest assured that there are exciting things on the horizon for the Evil Dead universe.
