One of the members of the so-called Evil 8 paedophile ring is appealing against his conviction and sentence for abusing a young girl who was offered for sex to strangers by her father.
Alfred John Impicciatore was sentenced to nine-and-a-half years in jail after being found guilty by a District Court judge of four offences against the girl in March 2015 when she was about 13 years old.
The abuse happened while the girl's father was present.
Today, Impicciatore represented himself when he appeared in the Court of Appeal via video link from Casuarina prison.
He requested more time to lodge some documentation which he said he could not access because his "cell computer" had been taken away, although he was expecting it back soon.
He was granted the extension of time by Justice Robert Mazza.
It is believed his appeal is centred around his video record of interview with police, in which he made admissions.
He tried to get the video ruled inadmissible, arguing police failed to follow proper procedure because they detained him at the police station for longer than was allowed.
Impicciatore's argument failed and the video was played at his judge-alone trial in November last year.
Impicciatore was the only member of the so-called Evil 8 group to defend the charges against him.
The other seven men pleaded guilty and received jail terms of between two years and 22-and-a-half years, which was the sentence given to the girl's father who also sexually abused her as well as offered her to strangers.
The father appealed against his sentence claiming it was "manifestly excessive", but this was dismissed by three judges.
A date is yet to be set for Impicciatore's appeal hearing.
