Evie, 13, wants robotic arm so she can wash and dry her own hair

A brave 13 year old girl wants to buy a "Hero Arm" so she can do everyday tasks that many of us take for granted.

Evie Hunter was born with a congenital limb difference and has no right forearm past the elbow, or a right hand.

So far in life she has adapted well, but some things remain a struggle, like washing and drying her hair, or holding a bowl.

The Speke teenager is now trying to get a prosthetic arm to get more independence. But the lifechanging prosthetic could cost up to £13,000 because they are custom made for each person.

Evie, who goes to St Nicholas Academy in Garston, said: "As a toddler I adapted well and managed to do things in my own way.

"At an early age I learnt to fasten my own buttons and I was even able to do my own school tie.

Evie Hunter, 13, is trying to get enough money to buy herself a prosthetic arm (eyJpdiI6IjlYdDNpRllnd2JaMkluZ091ZUt4U2c9PSIsInZhbHVlIjoiMDJDaCt2WlJkVEhmaERMNk9IeEJobW1kVFo1S0Z0Zk9DeWc2Q2dBWFpEWU1YeHhQRXh1VERrMDVWS0ZKUzIrdCIsIm1hYyI6IjhlNTA3NWQ3MTE4NjQwNmM4NDAwMjE0NjNiMmFiODJmYWFh)

"I have in the past had numerous prosthetic arms all of which I found very uncomfortable and heavy and as I have poor balance I was falling over and hurting myself more whilst wearing them.

"I am now a teenager and I am finding rather than wanting to keep asking for help I want to be more independent doing everyday tasks you may take for granted like washing and drying my own hair.

"I am learning to bake and would love to be able to hold a bowl and stir my mixture at the same time and be able to carry items in both hands rather than trying to balance them on my arm.

"The Hero Arm would increase my independence and allow me to be able to carry out these activities.

"Growing up my parents always encouraged me to not be embarrassed of or hide my arm and mum would often alter my tops and coats to fit my arm.

"This Hero Arm is lightweight unlike my previous prosthetic and has room for growth and it is very robust.

"Unfortunately the cost of a Hero arm is between £10,000 and £13,000 any donations you could give no matter how small would help towards the payment of this life-changing arm.

"Can you be my hero?"

So far, £5,000 has been raised in an online appeal, with a target of £12,000 in her sights.

Evie's cousin, Mia Bolland said: "This will enrich her daily life and help her as she grows older - it will change her life, to put it simply.

"She's inspiring, when she's young you always get looks, but she just pushes on.

"She's got a passion for baking and but that's a bit of a struggle, and she wants to not be asking for help all the time."

Evie has been for appointments in Birmingham to measure her up for the robotic arm, which even grows with the person as they get bigger.
