Eviction notices and hotspot patrols used to curb antisocial behaviour in Wishaw

Eviction notices and weekly hotspot patrols are just some of the measures being dished out to stop antisocial behaviour in Wishaw.

The council’s antisocial behaviour team published its annual findings this week and confirmed a number of measures being taken in order to stamp out trouble.

These included out-of-hours team patrols in Maxton Crescent, Coltness between Thursday and Sunday evenings to provide community reassurance and tenants being evicted in Stobo Street in October last year.

Notice of Proceeding’s were served against two people in Coldstream Crescent following multiple complaints about ASB. Both have since terminated their tenancies and moved out.

“Our team is equipped to tackle issues ranging from lifestyle disputes and dogs barking, to noisy parties and intimidating and threatening behaviour,” said Stephen Llewellyn, the council’s head of housing solutions.

“In addition to the responsive element, staff are dedicated to supporting residents and working with them and their neighbours to stop low level issues from escalating.

“It’s important people understand the impact their behaviour can have. We also visit local secondary schools and work with pupils to explore how to be a good neighbour and make positive life choices.

“We continue to use feedback from residents to ensure our service meets the need of the local community and improves lives for our tenants and residents.”

Across North Lanarkshire, trained mediators stopped issues involving 232 sets of neighbours escalating.

The local authority also confirmed they had issued over 900 formal warnings and a further 39 Notice of Proceedings for antisocial behaviour against its own tenants.

A council spokesperson added: “This year has also seen positive customer satisfaction levels recorded at 96 per cent; attendance at almost 1500 ongoing incidents and issuing over 260 on the spot warnings and our service being shortlisted for two national awards for innovative practice.”
