Everything you need to know as Nottingham City Transport bus prices increase

Commuters are being advised the cost of bus travel in Nottingham will go up on Sunday, March 31.

The price of a single adult ticket on a Nottingham City Transport bus will increase by 10p to £2.30, while an all-day ticket will now cost £4.20, an increase of 20p.

The hike comes just a year since NCT increased its prices across the board. This time, the company has blamed the cost of diesel on the decision, saying the price of the fuel has increased eight percent in the last year.

Speaking about the increase, NCT marketing manager Anthony Carver-Smith said: “We appreciate increasing fares is never popular, but as our day to day operating costs rise above inflation again and with the significant investment we have to make in 2019 to introduce 67 more bio-gas buses to our fleet in order to reduce emissions by the end of the year, it is unavoidable."

A spokesman for NCT added: "This will be the first rise in these fares for a year (last increase March 25, 2018) and is necessary to once again cover above inflationary increases in operating costs, as well as for investment over the next 12 months in the fleet and in ticketing technology.

"The price NCT is paying for a litre of diesel has increased by 8 pence per litre over the last year, which represents an 8.5 percent rise and can no longer be absorbed."

Prices are also being increased on the NCTX Buses App, which had previously been discounted.

In addition, prices for Easyrider tickets will also be going up, but the cost of monthly direct debits will be frozen.

The spokesman said: "Easyrider continues to offer the best value way for customers to travel around the NCT network.

"The popular monthly Easyrider Everyday and all Easyrider Anyday prices will increase for the first time in two years.

"We will be freezing the price of monthly direct debits, which reinstates a discount for customers who commit to regular monthly renewals."
