If you thought the headlines were going to be dominated by somebody else today, how naive you were.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have officially announced their engagement – and the reactions have been coming in thick and fast, with Donald Trump even appearing to be uncharacteristically kind to the pop megastar.
The couple, who have been together since 2023, shared the news on Instagram with a photoshoot from when Kelce popped the question - which according to his dad, Ed Kelce, was in Lee's Summit, Missouri, almost two weeks ago.
He proposed with a vintage-inspired ring that has been doing the rounds online.
According to US reports, Kelce worked with New York designer Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry to design the ring and since the news of the engagement broke, the designer’s website has essentially sold out.
That’s Swiftie power for you.

The ring is a brilliant-cut old mine colourless diamond rounded at the corners, bezel-set in yellow gold with engraving on the band.
It is estimated to be around 8 to 10 carats and speculation is that it could have cost somewhere between $500,000 and $1 million.
While your pupils continue to dilate after reading that ballpark figure, bear in mind that the Kansas City Chiefs star is currently being paid $17 million, according to his current NFL contract, and has a net worth of between $70 and $90 million.
By comparison, based on Forbes, Swift has a net worth of $1.6 billion as of 2024 and is the wealthiest female musician - a title once held by Rihanna.
So, the price tag for the ring seems about right.

Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry specialises in natural stones and vintage-inspired one-off pieces with hand-carved detailing – something she refers to as “ring tattooing”. The designer has a sizeable social media following, including more than 230,000 Instagram followers (and counting – you can bet the engagement news will make those numbers swell).
Lubeck has yet to comment on designing Swift’s ring but eagle-eyed fans have noticed that her social media channels feature rings that look very similar to Swift’s - including one seen in an Instagram post that has now more than 552,000 likes.

The news of Swift and Kelce’s engagement comes hot off the heals of Swift announcing the release of her new album, 'The Life of a Showgirl', which hits shelves on 3 October. The album is widely expected to be inspired by her experience of her record-breaking Eras Tour and by her romance with Kelce.
Many brands and major companies jumped on the Swift marketing bandwagon following the announcement of the album, and more businesses have done the same after the news of the engagement. Click here to find out why.
