Everything you need to know about Race for Life Swansea 2021

Swansea’s Race for Life events return this weekend after an almost two-year wait due to the pandemic.

UPDATE: All of Saturday's events mentioned below have been cancelled due to the weather and the condition of the park following recent events. Sunday's events are continuing as planned.

More than 2,200 people have signed up for a weekend of activity, including 5k and 10 k routes to walk or run, as well as a muddy assault course.

Race for Life is Cancer Research UK's biggest series of fund raising events, which take place across the country. To date almost £900 million has been raised towards beating cancer since the event began in 1994.

Here's what you need to know:

Where?

All the Swansea events take place in Singleton Park on Mumbles Road, SA2 8PY

When?

The events take place on both Saturday and Sunday, October 2 and 3.

What are the events?

There are the Pretty Muddy Kids; Pretty Muddy 5k, and the 3k, 5k and 10k courses.

What time do each begin?

Saturday:

11am - Swansea Pretty Muddy Kids

11.45am - Swansea Pretty Muddy 5k

Sunday:

11.30am - Swansea 10k

12.30am - Swansea 3k

1pm - Swansea 5k

How does Pretty Mudder work?

Pretty Muddy events are in waves, each starting 15 minutes apart to make sure everyone on the course is safe. You must be 13 years of age or over. Anyone with a pre-existing medical condition should seek doctor’s advice before registering.

How long does it take to complete?

Obstacles vary at each event, but most people will finish in about an hour. Events are not competitive so there is no pressure to finish in a certain time.

What do I need to wear?

Think comfortable clothes and trainers. Clean clothes and a towel are advised for after the event. Race for Life clothing and accessories are available here.

What else do I need?

Don’t forget your info - you will need your backsign and race number, as well as safety pins to attach them to your clothing.

What do I do if I forget or lose my race number?

Visit the enquiries tent on the day for a new one, but remember to leave extra time for this in case of queues.

What facilities are available?

There are no lockers, changing facilities or showers.

Will water be available?

Cancer Research UK is trying to reduce single-use plastic consumption this year, so is encouraging people to bring their own reusable bottles of water already filled - although bottles of water will be available to those who need it.

Where is the best place for family and friends to watch?

For Pretty Muddy events, the most popular place is the Mud Slide, which is usually positioned within 500m of the finish line.

For 5k and 10k events, visit the enquiries tent and they may be able to direct if the course is accessible. Otherwise, the finish line is always good.

How can I raise money for Cancer Research UK?

The easiest way is with a Cancer Research UK Giving Page. You can fundraise alone or as part of a group and keep track of donations. Find out more here.
