Everything you need to know about Jaylen Brown’s new contract

Next season, Jaylen Brown will become the team’s third-highest player with an estimated $24 million salary.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes, there are no player or team options in Brown’s four-year, $115 million rookie scale contract extension. However, there are $12 million dollars in incentives, with $103 million being guaranteed for Brown through 2023-24.

$8 million in incentives will be achieved if he wins a Most Valuable Player award, Defensive a Player of the Year Award or makes one of three All-NBA Teams. Another $4 million in incentives will be paid out if he plays 65 or more games, the Celtics win 49 or more games and if they reach the second round of the NBA Playoffs.

While it’s unlikely Brown wins an MVP award anytime soon, even a DPOY award, an All-NBA team selection is a more achievable goal, so he may earn part of that $8 million in incentives if he realizes his potential.

Furthermore, as he’s never played in fewer than 70 games, played on a Boston team that won fewer than 49 games or failed to make it to at least the second round of the playoffs, he seems likely to earn the extra $4 million in incentives.

That said, Brown’s could end up being paid $110 million over the next four seasons (a $27.5 million average) rather than $115 million.
