Everything You Need To Know About ‘Fortnite’ Chapter 2, Season 3: Map Changes, Battle Pass, Patch Notes

After a couple of delays, Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 3 is officially here. Midas’ Doomsday Device doesn’t seem like it quite did what it was supposed to, because the map is now a post-apocalyptic water world, a floating wonderland full of loot, sharks, helicopters and all sorts of other secrets waiting to be uncovered. It’s one of the bigger season reveals we’ve had in a long time, and I think it’s the first time that essentially the entire map is touched in some way. There’s a lot in here, so let’s dig into what’s new.

This post will be updated as more is discovered, so check back later.

Things have gone wrong: The central conceit here is that Midas’ device failed to push back the storm and drowned the map instead. But his old pal Meowscles is here to show us that things can still be fun, and the battle royale goes on. Check out the cinematic trailer here.

Map Changes: The big one, clearly. We have four new major POIs, a bunch of smaller ones, and water everywhere you can see. Navigating this map is going to be totally different than it was in any other season, and I’m interested to see how that impacts things. As the season goes on,

Battle Pass: As always, a new battle pass. Aquaman replaces Deadpool, and otherwise we’ve got 100 tiers of unlockable goodies for anyone willing to put in the work, complete challenges and claw their way up. I’m a fan of Scuba Jonesy, who continues to evolve everyone’s favorite default skin. There are also two Tier-100 skins this time around, which is nice.

Of particular interest is the new Build-a-Brella, which takes the place of Maya for customizable, season-long cosmetic.

Sharks and Marauders: You are not alone in the water, and you are not alone on land. New sharks add danger to navigating open water, but they can be hooked with a fishing pole for faster travel. On land, Marauders might come on down and challenge you.

We’ve also got whirlpools in the water, which push you back up into the air for some mobility.

New Weapons and Mythic Weapons: The Charge Shotgun and Flare Gun join the fight, and new suite of bosses at manned POIs have some new mythic weapons to check out.

Patch Notes: Epic continues a Chapter 2 tradition here by not including official patch notes, but there are patch notes just the same. Here’s what we’re seeing so far, but check back for more.
