Many of us might be looking forward to thoughts of spring, but Disney Lorcana Winterspell is still in a cold snap. Things are snowy and bright in the latest set for the trading card game, and it's settling onto shelves less than a month from now.
What does it do differently to previous sets, though? Even though it's been a couple of years since Lorcana launched and started vying for a spot amongst the best card games, there are still plenty of beloved characters to introduce. This expansion adds more than a few, including Pocahontas, Mickey's Christmas Carol, and Angel from Lilo and Stitch. As you might expect for a set called 'Disney Lorcana Winterspell,' it also emphasizes snow-based shenanigans.

Disney Lorcana Winterspell essential info

- The 11th Disney Lorcana set
- Themed around snowy environments & winter
- Adds beloved characters like Pocahontas to the game
Disney Lorcana Winterspell is the 11th set for the game and kicks off its third year. It revolves around the eponymous 'Winterspell,' an effect accidentally set off by Elsa from Frozen as she attempts to stop vines spreading across the realm. Along with introducing previously unseen heroes and villains to the game, its characters suddenly have to contend with a deep freeze – and many mechanics reflect that chilly nature.
What are the biggest changes in Disney Lorcana Winterspell?
The biggest developments for this set would be the introduction of new properties (ranging from Darkwing Duck to Pocahontas), but also a subtle change to the game's language – the action of taking an inkable card is now simply described as 'ink' a card.
Which new characters are being added to Disney Lorcana with Winterspell?
The cast of Pocahontas and Darkwing Duck make their first appearance in Winterspell, and it also adds characters from the Lilo & Stitch TV series like Angel. The Fox and the Hound is making its Disney Lorcana debut as well, as is Mickey's Christmas Carol.

Disney Lorcana Winterspell products

- The usual lineup of boosters & Illimineer's Trove
- No single-player decks
As a 'main' set, we're seeing a lot of the usual suspects for Disney Lorcana Winterspell. However, it's worth noting that there are some commonly-seen products missing from the lineup. More specifically, there aren't any premade single-player decks this time around. It's not entirely clear why, so we'll have to wait and see if more are on the way in future.
Disney Lorcana Winterspell mechanics

As usual, Winterspell adds new cards and songs to Disney Lorcana – but a few ideas rise above the rest. Here are the biggest additions to the latest set.
Disney Lorcana Winterspell story

- Mysterious vines are growing across Lorcana
- Elsa tries to freeze them, but unleashes a magic winter
Most Disney Lorcana sets have been following an ongoing story, and Winterspell is no different. It continues the narrative that kicked off with last year's Whispers in the Well, and mysterious vines have begun to appear. These are feeding on the 'flood' ink type (which remixes characters in chaotic ways) and are growing across the realm at an alarming rate. To halt it in its tracks, the Illumineers (AKA us, the players) summon an Elsa glimmer from Frozen to buy a little time and freeze those vines. Due to Elsa's unpredictable power, it goes wrong… and a catastrophic wave of ice and snow called the 'Winterspell' covers Lorcana. Oops.
Still, the plus-side is that everyone can enjoy some festive fun in the snow now. So, yay?
