Everything you can do when lockdown rules change in just over a week's time

A new set of lockdown restrictions are set to be lifted in just over a week's time under the government's roadmap.

Boris Johnson laid out his roadmap for easing the national lockdown last month in four different stages.

The plan is subject to four tests which must be met in order for restrictions to be eased on the proposed dates.

They are:

  • The vaccine deployment programme continues successfully
  • Evidence shows vaccines are sufficiently effective in reducing hospitalisations and deaths in those vaccinated
  • Infection rates do not risk a surge in hospitalisations which would put unsustainable pressure on the NHS
  • Government assessment of the risks is not fundamentally changed by new 'Variants of Concern'

The first stage of the roadmap came into force on March 8 when pupils returned to schools and colleges across England.

Every care home resident in England is now also allowed to one, regular visitor, who must be tested for coronavirus every time they visit.

Since the rule changes on March 8, people are now allowed to leave their home for recreation as well as to exercise outdoors - with their own household, support or childcare bubble, or with one person from another household.

But with more rules set to change on March 29, we took a look at what those rules are and how it will affect you.

What rules will change from March 29?

One of the biggest changes which will come into force from March 29 - subject to the government meeting its four tests - is the Rule of Six.

From this date the Rule of Six will resume for outdoor gatherings meaning up to six people - or two households of more than six people - will be allowed to meet up in outdoor spaces like parks and private gardens.

Separate households still need to observe social distancing and indoor mixing will remain banned.

This is the point when the government hopes to end its 'stay at home' order and messaging will move towards encouraging people to stay local wherever they can.

People will still be asked to work from home where possible and travel should continue to be minimised with holidays still off the cards.

Outdoor sport will also be allowed to resume from March 29, with children and adults allowed to take part.

This includes outdoor sports facilities such as tennis and basketball courts, golf courses and bowling greens and would also include outdoor swimming facilities.

Outdoor parent and child groups will be also allowed to meet up with a maximum of 15 parents from this date.

People are urged to "use common sense and socially distance from other households."
