Everything we learned from the Stranger Things Season 5 trailer

Well, it’s back. After more than two years off our screens, Stranger Things is finally returning for its last-ever fifth season.

Details on what exactly is in store have been kept extremely under wraps until now, barring a couple of extremely coy teaser trailers. But now we have our first good look at the world of Hawkins, Indiana – and it seems that the Duffer Brothers are going out with a bang.

Here’s what we know so far from the trailer.

The trailer is basically a greatest hits of Stranger Things cast members – and there are a lot of them. We see Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven, yes, but there’s also Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Jim Hopper (thank god the two finally escaped from Russia; that wasn’t a great plotline), Joe Keery as Steve, Maya Hawke as Robin, and all the boys – Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin and Noah Schnapp. And yes, for those wondering, Lucas’ little sister Erica (Priah Ferguson) is also back.

Max is still in a coma

We only see a glimpse of Sadie Sink’s Max in the trailer, but it doesn’t look good: Caleb is squeezing her hand, and she looks to be in a hospital bed. Considering how badly she was injured by Vecna in the closing moments of season four – all of her bones were broken, and she looked to be basically brain dead, before Eleven brought her back – it’s not a surprise. But still, we might not see much of her going forward.

Vecna looks to be the main baddie again

Jamie Campbell Bower is also listed in the cast, and he plays the spectacularly creepy Vecna. We see glimpses of him throughout the trailer, and his parting words at its end – “found you” – suggests that he’s been searching for Eleven ever since their spectacular head to head in the season for finale. The head to head, may I add, in which Eleven tried and failed to stop him from attacking Max. Uh-oh.

The fightback is here

Season four ended with Vecna opening a gate to the Upside Down in the middle of the sleepy town of Hawkins, Indiana. But it looks like the gang aren’t going to take that lying down: the trailer opens with Steve seemingly shacked up in a radio station of sorts, increasing the volume on some kind of radio signal.

Plus, there’s clips of the US Army in town, while Eleven pops up wearing a bandana and getting ready to go back into a sensory deprivation tank. “Wherever this blood leads, I need you to fight one last time,” Hopper tells her. “Let’s end this, kid.”

We also see shots of what looks to be Hawkins residents sheltering in bunkers or air raid shelters of some sort – not a bad idea, considering that we also see Demogorgons roaming around too.

We’ve got a while to wait

We’ve still got a while to wait, unfortunately. The first four episodes will premiere on November 27, the next three on Boxing Day and the finale will be out on New Year’s Day. All of them will be releasing at 1am GMT (thanks guys) so make sure to set those alarms.

Stranger Things season five will be streaming on Netflix from November 27
