Everything we know after thousands of Yahoo Mail accounts go down

Thousands of Yahoo Mail users across the globe were unable to access their emails this morning after the site crashed.

Here in the UK, the problem affected BT, Sky and TalkTalk's accounts, which are powered by the US company.

It was first reported around 7am on Thursday (September 5) when scores of people took to social media to find out what was going on.

When was it resolved?

At around 3pm Yahoo Customer Care tweeted: "Most services are back online. This is a technical issue that affected our services. We are sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we get everything back up and running."

However, some users were tweeting for around two hours after this time they still couldn't use their account.

Any further issues?

Some people claimed emails sent from during the outage had not arrived.

Hayley Cameron wrote to Yahoo on Twitter: "My email inbox is now up and running but there seems to have been no emails from during the outage. Will these eventually be retrieved?"

A spokesperson for the company responded: "Emails that were sent during the downtime will still be received once our servers have a chance to catch up.

"If by the end of the day you still have not received an email please reach out and let us know. We do apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience."
