Everything we know about Working Class Writers Festival taking place in Bristol this week

A four-day writing festival takes place in Bristol this week.

The Working-Class Writers Festival, ClassFest, which runs from Thursday, October 21 until Sunday, October 24, will showcase working-class writers of all styles and disciplines and provide a platform for those who are already established and those making their debut.

The festival aims to provide a platform for working-class writers whilst also making such events affordable and accessible for all to attend.

It is headed by Natasha Carthew, alongside leading organisation Bristol Ideas and sponsors Hachette UK and Penguin Books.

The festival will include panel discussions, as well as speaker events and workshops and is taking place in locations across the city.

Some of the events include panel discussions on 'myth-busting' the publishing industry, tackling inequality in the UK and an opportunity to pose any questions to literary agents.

There are also a number of workshops taking place such as finding yourself as a writer, finding agents, coping with rejection, building resilience and much more.

For those who cannot attend, the audio from all events will be recorded and a playlist will be released on SoundCloud within a week or two of the festival.

Selected in-person events will also be recorded and made available on the Bristol Ideas YouTube channel in mid-November.

The line-up includes: Stella Duffy, Val McDermid, Paul Mendez, Mohsin Zaidi, Tracy King, Graham Caveney, Mahsuda Snaith, Kerry Hudson, Sam Friedman, Lorraine Brown, Mark Hodkinson, Juno Roche, Justin Myers, Patrice Lawrence, Tony Walsh, Cash Carraway, Courttia Newland, Dave O’Brian, Tanya Shadwick, Mona Arshi, Simon Kvosi, Mary O’Hara, Joelle Taylor, Amer Anwar, Jessica Andrews, James McDermott, Sharon Duggal and Cole Moreton.
