What is the Wicked sequel called?
While everyone’s been calling it “Wicked: Part Two,” the official title is actually a bit more exciting. The next film will officially be called Wicked: For Good. Cute, no?
What happens in Wicked: Part Two?
AGAIN! SPOILER (sorta) WARNING.
Although the details surrounding Wicked: For Good are quite hush-hush, theatre kids can tell you exactly what happens in the second act.
I really don’t want to give too much of the plot away — although it is already out there since the musical has been out for yonks — but in short, Part Two is basically where Wicked meets The Wizard of Oz, with the second half diving deep into the characters of the Tin Man and the Scarecrow, as well as the appearance of Dorothy Gale.
Glinda’s set to embrace her Good Witch status, joining Madame Morrible and The Wizard in turning Oz against Elphaba (who gets labelled the Wicked Witch of the East).
That’s all imma say for now, but if you thought you were crying after Part One, wait until Part Two.
Is Dorothy going to be in Wicked: For Good?
For ages, Chu played coy about Dorothy’s role, telling Variety he wanted everyone’s Dorothy to be “the whatever Dorothy they want”.
But now, she’s front and centre in the trailer, so it’s official: Dorothy’s got a bigger role in the films than in the musical.
Still no confirmation on who’s playing her, but the rumour mill (aka Betches) reckons it’s Alisha Weir from Matilda: The Musical.

Is there a trailer for Wicked: For Good?
The final trailer for Wicked: For Good landed on September 24, giving us our longest look yet ahead of the film’s November premiere. The three-minute clip sees our beloved heroines assuming their respective mantels of Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West, with plenty of bubble and broom-flying in between for extra measure.

Thankfully, the trailer sees Glinda and Elphaba reuniting after going their seperate ways at the end of the first film, and it’s soundtracked by two songs from the Broadway show: “No Good Deed” and “For Good” (duh!).
Also in the clip, we get a peek at the chaos that ensues with the arrival of one Miss Dorothy Gale (heard of her?), trotting all the way in from Kansas in keeping with Wizard of Oz canon.
Director Jon M. Chu warned us of the red-slippered character’s appearance — a departure from her purely shadowy cameo in the original musical — in an interview with Vanity Fair, saying the famed Yellow Brick Road is “the place that we were first introduced into Oz”.
Chu’s also been quick to reassure fans about the changes, telling Vanity Fair, “We’re delicate. We’re delicate. We’re delicate”. (That’s three times for emphasis, in case you missed it.)

The final trailer adds to other details we’ve gotten from previous clips and teasers, including the introduction of at least one wholly original song and Glinda in a wedding dress, which marked another departure from the Broadway show.
Chu confirmed to Vanity Fair that the wedding between Glinda and Prince Fiyero (not seen in the OG version) is “life or death for all of them, so [including the] wedding seemed appropriate”. Drama alert!
Why are there two parts of Wicked?
Speaking to Variety, Wicked director Chu said it was “inevitable” that Wicked became a two-part movie, revealing that scripts that condensed the beloved musical “were stripping many songs” and were changing the storyline.
“Other scripts that were trying to fit it into one movie were stripping many songs and changing the story in ways that didn’t quite make logical, emotional sense. You can get away with that on stage, but movie audiences are tougher,” he said.
Now, go watch the trailer and start prepping your best Glinda and Elphaba outfits for the premiere. You know you want to.
