Everything we know about the Twilight TV reboot so far - including possible plots

Reboots seem to be coming at viewers faster than the nostalgia can hit, with Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and now Twilight all about to get the TV treatment.

It can be a hard sell to fans on remakes of these beloved franchises as Warner Bros found out when announcing the Harry Potter series - but that doesn't stop networks from trying.

Stephanie Meyer's Twilight books stormed the box office in 2009, creating legions of fans screaming for team Edward or team Jacob.

It has since become a cult icon with fans picking apart both their favourite elements and flaws from the books and films but now, Bella Swan could be about to return.

The Hollywood Reporter has treated vampire fans by revealing that Lionsgate Television has a Twilight TV series in the works, although it is very early stages.

Lionsgate TV's series is not yet confirmed on any network or streaming platform and has no timeline or concrete plans. However, Sinead Daly, who is known for Tell Me Lies, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency and The Get Down, is connected to the script.

Sinead is said to be working with the studio to shape the show, which is still in it's infancy and it is not known if it will be a remake of the original books or a spin off.

For anyone who has not seen the five romance fantasy films or missed out on the original books, The Twilight Saga follows Bella Swan as she moves to the town of Forks, Washington, to live with her dad Charlie.

She quickly attracts the attention of the mysterious Edward Cullen, who hangs out with his adopted family who just so happen to be vampires.

This discovery puts her at odds with childhood friend and werewolf Jacob Black, resulting in a love triangle with the strangest of outcomes.

Fans have said the cast is "irreplaceable" (Publicity Picture)

The core trio for the films included Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and Robert Pattinson and fans are already asking if they will cameo in the new series, while others say they are "irreplaceable".

It's unlikely some cast members will return to the franchise as many have been vocal about their dislike for the films since production ended.

Oscar nominee Anna Kendrick, who played Bella's friend, referred to it as "like a hostage situation" where the cast were "bonded for life."

Avoiding a straight remake, there are three spin off novels written by Meyer that could be used for inspiration; The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined and Midnight Sun.

Midnight Sun is Twilight retold from Edward's perspective while Life and Death takes a gender swapped approach to the original tale. Bree Tanner is a short independent story which focuses on a side character from the third book.

Meyer is said to be working on the project in some capacity, so anything is possible for this much anticipated return to Forks.
