On Sunday, August 17, one person was killed and another was critically injured following a “deplorable” shooting outside of a pub in Sydney’s inner-west. Here’s everything we know so far.
Emergency services were called to the Harold Park Hotel in Forrest Lodge on Sunday, at about 6.40pm, following reports of a public place shooting.
Upon arrival, officers found two people had been shot multiple times by assailants who’d fled the scene before authorities could arrive.

Gilbert Shino, 39, received assistance from NSW Ambulance paramedics, but unfortunately, he died at the scene.
Maradona Yalda, 31, was seriously injured — with the Sydney Morning Herald reporting that he sustained injuries to the neck, chest and abdomen — and was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

According to the SMH, it’s been reported that the duo were leaving the Harold Park Hotel after watching a UFC match at the establishment. However, when they got closer to their vehicle, Shino and Yalda were reportedly “ambushed” and were hit with multiple shots.
Shino died near the vehicle, while Yalda attempted to flee by running back to the Harold Park Hotel before he was found “slumped over a garbage bin on Alfred Street”.

Detective Superintendent Alfio Sergi also shared that a bullet “whizzed past” a female employee of the pub, who was outside collecting glasses, the publication reports.
Shortly after the shooting, members of the public rushed to help the victims, including medical students who were inside the pub and a doctor who lived nearby.
“I want to thank them, commend them for their quick actions and trying to assist,” Sergi said on Monday.
Speaking to the SMH, police sources claimed that Yalda has been linked to Assyrian crime groups in western Sydney, including DLASTHR — or known as the “The Last Hour”. Shino was also known to the police due to his links to Assyrian crime gangs, but not for serious offending associated with the groups.

According to ABC News, police sources confirmed that Yalda “was informed of threats” against his life less than a week ago.
Police believe this to be a targeted shooting by one gunman, but haven’t ruled out the possibility of multiple shooters.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Sergi said that possible links to organised crime groups will be the focus of investigations into the deadly shooting.
“Obviously (we are) looking at links with organised crime networks, that’ll be the focus of our investigation,” he said, per 9News.
NSW Premier Chris Minns responds to fatal inner-west shooting
NSW Premier Chris Minns labelled Sunday’s deadly shooting a “horrifying, violent criminal act”.
“It’s deplorable, it’s disgusting. It’s the kind of thing that you don’t expect to see in a reasonably safe city like Sydney,” he said, the SMH reports.
“We can’t promise an end to this despicable and horrific violence. We can promise a comprehensive police response, and NSW Police have locked up and put in jail for decades the people who are responsible for these violent public gangland crimes.”
Following inquiries into the shooting, officers are now seeking to identify a dark blue Ford Mustang seen in the area between 3pm to 7pm.
Anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage is urged to contact Leichhardt police on 02 9552 8099 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
