Everything we know about Hengrove Leisure Centre evacuation

Hengrove Leisure Centre was evacuated this morning following what has now been confirmed by Avon Fire and Rescue as a chemical leak.

An eyewitness originally got in contact with Bristol Live  to say people had been evacuated from the leisure centre due to there being a 'strange smell'.

Earlier this morning, the leisure centre tweeted: "Please be advised that we have had to evacuate the building. We will endeavour to keep everyone up to date."

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue told Bristol Live the latest about what is going on.

We are reporting live updates on this incident here.

"At 09:20, crews from Temple, Hicks Gate and Patchway fire stations were mobilised to reports of a chemical leak at a commercial property on Hengrove Promenade.

"Crews in gas tight suits have been working to identify the cause of the leak with partner agencies including the environment agency. Firefighters are formulating a plan to isolate the leak and also ventilate the building.

"Around 40 people have been evacuated from the building and two people have self-presented at a nearby walk in centre.

"Police are also in attendance and more information will follow."
