Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave will launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on Sept. 17, 2026. The next entry in Nintendo’s tactical RPG series follows four protagonists competing in the Heroic Games, a tournament whose winner receives one wish.
Players will be able to do side activities, recruit allies, explore the surrounding world, and prepare their armies for battles.
The game was announced at the 2025 Nintendo Direct last September, and the game is coming out in a little more than a year.
When does Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave release?
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave releases on Sept. 17, 2026. It is being developed exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2, with no version announced for the original Nintendo Switch
The estimated digital file size is 29.5GB, although Nintendo notes that download sizes can change before release. It’s currently unknown how big the docked mode enhancements will be over the handheld mode.
What is the story of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave?
The story takes place in the Dagdan Empire, which has existed under the rule of gods for 1,500 years. Its capital city, Dagsion, hosts the Heroic Games, drawing fighters from across the land with the promise that the winner will have one wish granted.
Players will have to pick one of four protagonists and follow their journey, though it’s currently unknown how big the difference between the routes will be. If we consider this game a successor to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, branching should be extensive, which will increase the replay value of the game.
The tournament will not be the only focus of the game, however, as all four central characters are connected to the fate of the world, but the exact threat to Dagda is yet to be revealed.
Who are the four protagonists?
- Cai is a young boy entering the Heroic Games to free his imprisoned father. The trailers show him using magic alongside martial weapons, but we still don’t know his exact starting class or personal abilities.
- Dietrich is a swordsman searching for opponents who can challenge him. His motivation is currently the least specific of the four, and nothing has been revealed about his personal quest.
- Theodora is a queen trying to fulfil a long-held ambition for her homeland. Her presence raises the stakes and increases the political tension.
- Leda is a musician participating in the Heroic Games to take revenge, but the cause is still unknown.
How does Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave gameplay work?
Battles retain the series’ grid-based, turn-based structure. Players move individual units across maps, account for their strengths and weaknesses, and use special abilities belonging to the four protagonists.
Preparation takes place between Heroic Games matches. Players can explore Dagsion, train their units, find resources, and build relationships with potential allies before recruiting them.
Side activities outside the capital have also been teased, but we still don’t know the extent of them.
We do know, however, that these activities use a limited-time system, meaning players cannot complete every available task before the next tournament match.
Is Fortune’s Weave connected to Fire Emblem: Three Houses?
The trailers contain several indications that Fortune’s Weave shares a setting or history with Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The final scene of the reveal trailer shows a green-haired woman who looks very much like an adult Sothis, while the very recent Direct trailer uses music associated with her appearances in Three Houses.
So it is Sothis, but Nintendo hasn’t outright confirmed this, and it’s also unknown where during the timeline the game takes place.
Dagda was also the name of a foreign land mentioned in Three Houses, but the relationship between that region and the Dagdan Empire has also not been explained.
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave editions and preorder details
The standard digital edition is $69.99 and the regional variants are priced similarly, while the physical Dagdan Collection is $119.99 and contains the full game, a steel game case, an artbook, character art cards, and a physical map of Dagda.
What has not been confirmed?
Nintendo has not yet detailed difficulty settings, Classic and Casual modes, permanent death, romance options, class changes, New Game Plus, downloadable content, and the differences between handheld and docked modes.
More information is likely to be released before the September release of the game.
