Everything to know about HBO releasing Zac Snyder’s cut of ‘Justice League’

You win, Snyder fans.

On Wednesday afternoon, HBO announced that the long awaited Zac Snyder cut of Justice League is coming to the streaming service in 2021.

For years, fans have been clamoring for the infamous Snyder cut of the film after the initial 2017 release was a critical and box office flop. The much anticipated film was a huge disappointment and many believed that was due to Snyder having to step away from the movie before it was finished.

Hence, here we are three years later, with confirmation that the Snyder cut will finally come to fruition. In case you’re confused as to what the Snyder Cut is, why DC fans are having meltdowns, let us help untangle the story.

What’s the backstory on the Snyder cut?

Since 2013, director Zac Snyder had been at the helm of the DC universe, directing that years Man of Steel and 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. 1n 2017, Snyder was well into post-production on the Justice League movie when he had to step away after the death of his daughter.

Initially, Snyder gave the studio a four-hour version of the film which he then trimmed to 2 hours and 20 minutes.  The film, which had already been the subject of some controversy, was then handed off to Joss Whedon.

Snyder has maintained that the final product, which was a total stinker, was not true to his vision of the franchise.

Who are the people petitioning for the release of a Snyder cut?

DC comics fans! There was a ground swell of objection from fans who have remained loyal to Snyder despite how badly he’s messed up the Superman movie and Batman v Superman. There’s no figuring for taste, but some people really dig those movies, and feel like Snyder was done dirty.

Not only did they rustle up enough money to buy a billboard in Times Square asking for the release of the Snyder cut, but they hired a plane to fly over Comic-Con with the same message. Also, every now and then, when people are bored, the hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut starts trending on Twitter.

Honestly, it’s kind of exhausting.

What are the details of the Snyder cut?

For now, HBO Max has only released a date. The Snyder cut will debut on the streaming service on May 27, 2021 and much remains unknown, though Snyder himself has said the scope of the project will be huge.

“It will be an entirely new thing, and, especially talking to those who have seen the released movie, a new experience apart from that movie,” Zack Snyder told the Hollywood Reporter.

The cut might be a four-hour version of the movie, or, according the THR, be released in 6 chapters.

What’s this going to cost?

The cost is also unknown but sources peg it to around $20 or $30 million dollars. Of actual money. Just to see Ben Affleck as Batman again.

Are the original actors coming back?

Another maybe. Snyder is said to be redoing visual affects and bringing back the original cast, which includes Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Affleck as Batman, to do some voice recording.

Most importantly, will they fix Henry Cavill’s weird CGI face?

The CGI in Justice League was so bad, they made Henry Cavill look like this.

With 20 million dollars to play with, one can only hope they restore it to its perfect, original symmetry.
