Everything's coming up mangos

Above and right The interior of Le Meridien Bangkok's spa on the sixth floor.

It's mango season at Big Mango and for diehard fans, there is possibly no better time to be alive. Currently ongoing at Le Meridien Bangkok, one can immerse oneself in mango mania this summer with a pairing of mango-themed afternoon tea and massage. Priced at 1,500 baht for a Mango Inspirations Afternoon tea set and a 45-minute mango oil body massage for two, Mango Mystique is one of the sweetest deals we've seen on the tea circuit -- since that price alone usually just gets you one tea set (for the tea set alone the price is 800 baht).

Start this wallet-friendly mango moment with their massage. The spa may be eerily quiet, but the breezy, whitewashed space, filled with lots of natural light is quite welcoming. There's nothing super ceremonial about the treatment here -- you're welcomed with a cold herbal drink while filling out a form before heading off to get changed. Guests can choose to use the double treatment room with their partners or choose separate rooms. It's mostly frill-free, but the walk to the treatment rooms does put you in a tranquil mood with their floor-to-ceiling wall of white pebbles. The masseuses definitely exert just the right amount of weight for it to be a relaxing getaway. However, it's only when your turn over onto your back during the second half of the treatment that you finally get a whiff of the marvellous, sweet smell of the mango oil. All in all, it's a revitalising treat that has one wishing it doesn't end.

After the massage, the Mango Inspirations Afternoon tea set will be served, although it also can be enjoyed before the massage. Mango aficionados will be happy to see mango macaroons, mango tiramisu, mango with sticky rice balls, mango jelly, mango eclairs and scones served with a mango jam in a fun, toothpaste-shaped tube. The highlight bites that make it really worth the trek, however, are the savoury ones. Don't miss the flaky mille feuilles topped with parma ham and marinated mango and the vegetarian spring roll with a filling of sweet mango. The tangy, yellow dipping sauce completes the palate fully round with its sour zest that wakes you up.

To cool down from the blistering heat, there is the towering slim glass of mango iced tea, which is photogenically topped with fresh cubes of golden mangoes. It's a light drink that tastes like it can't decide whether it wants to be a juice or tea, so if you want something stronger, definitely opt for the hot teas. The finest loose leafs from Ronnefeldt are used, with a choice of either Morgentau green tea with sencha flowers and mango lemon flavour or the Mango Dream Ceylon black tea blended with sun-ripened mangoes, alongside another white oolong tea. If there's a mango head in your life you'd like to treat, this thematic promotion cannot get any more well-priced or mango-centric than this.

The Mango Mystique promotion will be available until June 30. For reservations, call 02-232-8888 or email dining.lmbkk@lemeridien.com.
