'Everything points' - Nottingham Forest-linked defender edging closer to move

Reported Nottingham Forest target Mathieu Peybernes seems to be edging towards the exit door at Almeria.

But it is said “everything points” to the defender remaining in Spain, despite “several offers” from clubs in England.

The Reds and Championship rivals Swansea City have both been linked with the 29-year-old, who looks to have been deemed surplus to requirements at Almeria.

Getafe and Levante are also said to be keen - and it is the latter who reportedly now have the edge in the race for his signature.

Spanish newspaper Marca say Peybernes is among a number of players who “have no place” at Almeria.

They claim, “the case of Peybernes is the clearest”, adding, “everything points to Getafe being his destination, although he also has several offers from England”.

Of the group of players with no future at Almeria, the report says: “All of them have been protagonists and have performed at a high level in their respective destinations, but they have no place in the rojiblanco team.

“In fact, some have offers to leave the club and in the coming days several departures could be made official.”

Peybernes spent last season on loan at fellow Spanish side Lugo and has previously been capped by France at Under-21 level.

Speaking back in April, the centre-back made clear he would welcome a move to England at some point in his career.

“The French have always had a notable connection with England,” he told Get French Football News.

“Playing there, for many French footballers, like for me, is a dream.

“Along with La Liga, the Premier League is one of the best competitions in the world and as a competitive professional you always want to test yourself in the best competitions.

“If the opportunity to go play in England presents itself then I would be interested.”
