Manchester United's poor start to the season means the club's board are having to consider other options in the dugout.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is into his third full season but his side look to be going backwards this term despite further investment in the summer.
United are a long way off the pace in the Premier League and already out of the Carabao Cup.
Solskjaer seems to be struggling to settle on a system that gets the best out of his current squad whilst frustration is reportedly growing internally due to the lack of rotation.
United handed their manager a new deal in the summer so will be reluctant to sack him, but if the club look like they may miss out on the top four then action could be taken.

Antonio Conte is no longer on the market but Zinedine Zidane, a man who is readily available, has been linked with the job.
He led Real Madrid to three successive Champions League titles and beat United in the UEFA Super Cup back in 2017.
His ability to handle big clubs is seen as a plus and his experience with Cristiano Ronaldo may also further his case.
Brendan Rodgers is another man touted as a potential United boss in the future. His work at Leicester City has seen his reputation grow.
He led the Foxes to the FA Cup last term and is likely to want another shot at a top four club having previously led Liverpool for over three years.
Over the years United's current crop of stars have made their feelings known on the next potential manager at Old Trafford.
Maguire on Rodgers
"He's a really good coach who will improve us as a team massively," Maguire said in April 2019, as quoted by ITV. "The club has shown really great ambition in luring him here.
"He breeds confidence into players, he's helping to bring the younger players through, does a lot of work on the training pitch and his man management is really top. He's made a really big impact.
Ronaldo on Zidane
"The confidence that a player needs doesn't only come from himself but also from the players around him and the coach," he said in 2019.
"You need to feel like you are an important part of the group and Zidane made me feel special. He helped me a lot. I already had a lot of respect for him but working with him made me admire him more.
"That's because of what he's like as a person, how he talks, how he led the team and how he treated me."
Varane on Zidane
The centre-half worked with the Frenchman for a long period at Los Blancos across two spells.
Zidane's ability to manage a group, especially one with big egos, has been lauded, which is backed up by Varane.
He said: “My first reaction is that I feel proud for the last ten years,” he said when quizzed on Zidane earlier in the year.
“I have learned a lot alongside him. He is a coach that has a human side."
Shaw on Rodgers' Leicester
United have had several crucial games against the Foxes in recent years. They pipped them to the Champions League in 2020 but were beaten by them in last season's FA Cup.
Prior to that cup defeat Shaw gave his assessment of Rodgers' Leicester side.
He said: "You have to hold your hands up and say sometimes they’re really good and sort of dictated the game. We all felt that, we all knew that and we spoke afterwards about it."
