People in West Lothian have shown their generosity yet again by answering the call to transform the garden of an 102-year-old woman.
Flora Campbell (known as Flo) is the oldest member of Fauldhouse and Breich Valley Community Development Trust’s Timebank project.
As well as helping to make a difference in the community, the Timebank helps people with loneliness and isolation, with people sharing their skills and helping each other with small jobs.
Flo, who stays in Fauldhouse, asked for help with her garden as she was finding it more difficult to maintain by herself.
She put this request on the Fauldhouse CDT Facebook page and volunteers were amazed at the almost 50,000 reach it received, with over 400 shares from people. This request resulted in many generous offers.
Avonside Contracts Ltd from Bathgate, raked and turfed the back garden. William Viver, the company owner along with his colleagues, Andrew, Darren and Paul gave up a day of their own time to lay the turf that the company very generously donated.

Flo didn’t have an outdoor tap so Ann contacted local Fauldhouse man, Francis Mancini, from FM Plumbing and Heating Services and he kindly agreed to donate, supply and fit a tap, while Stephen Patterson, from Linlithgow saw the social media post and generously offered to help Flo with her garden.
Flo needed a hose and sprinkler to help with watering the new turf. Stephen kindly agreed to purchase this and did so right away.
With everything now in place, the turf required regular watering, James Frew, a volunteer and neighbour, agreed to offer his time to set-up the hose and sprinkler and to water the turf daily for the next four weeks until settled.
Another of Flo’s neighbours kindly let the team use their garden hose and water supply for the first few days while we got all of this in place.

Flo herself shared her embroidery and tapestry skills, wool, baked cakes, grown and shared tomatoes and told members good few stories!
Timebank Coordinator, Ann Holloway who works with volunteers, said: “Flo first contacted the Timebank when she was 99 years old, she’s now 102!
“Flo is actually the oldest Timebank member in Scotland and in the UK. She requested help with her garden as she was finding it more difficult to maintain by herself and needed help.
“She contacted Timebank again to ask for help, this time with her back garden.
“Without everyone’s help and kindness this would not be possible.

“Not only did the people of Fauldhouse help out but people further afield who don’t even know Flo helped.
“It shows such kindness and generosity, it’s simply heart-warming!
“On behalf of everyone at F&BV CDT, I would like to thank everyone involved. You’ve made a lovely 102 year old lady absolutely delighted.”
“Flo, filled up with tears and was overjoyed that people had shown such kindness and offered to help her.
Flo added: “Thank you, this has made such a difference and I just can’t thank you all enough.”
