MILWAUKEE _ It may take awhile for the Cubs to cleanse themselves from an 11-1 loss Tuesday night to the Brewers.
The Cubs committed three errors while being held to three hits in six innings by left-hander Wade Miley as the Brewers cut the Cubs' lead to three games in the National League Central.
Cubs left-hander Mike Montgomery was pulled after four innings. He was hampered by wildness as he walked three, threw a wild pitch and hit a batter.
Reliever Brandon Kintzler's troubles continued, as he allowed a leadoff double to Lorenzo Cain that led to a run in the fifth.
The defensive miscues were the most puzzling aspect of the Cubs' shortcomings. Second baseman Javier Baez mishandled a potential double-play grounder that allowed the go-ahead run to score in the fourth, and shortstop Addison Russell and first baseman Victor Caratini were charged with errors during a three-run sixth.
Caratini took over for Anthony Rizzo, who fouled a pitch off his right foot in the third. X-rays were negative, and Rizzo was diagnosed with a bruise.
It marked the fourth time this season the Cubs committed three errors in a game. Relievers Dillon Maples, Brian Duensing and James Norwood walked six in 2 2/3 innings. Maples hit a batter and failed to retire any of the three batters he faced.
