Ranvir Singh has shared an emotional and deeply personal story about the challenges she faced during one of the most pivotal times in her life, breaking down in tears as she recalled the moment everything changed.
After years of climbing the ranks in both radio and television, Ranvir made a bold move in 2012, swapping the BBC for ITV just after announcing her first pregnancy. Her son was born in July that year, and only two months later, she stepped into a brand new role on ITV’s morning show Daybreak, co-presenting the early slot alongside Matt Barbet.
Starting a high-profile national presenting job while adjusting to life as a single mum was a massive leap, and she admitted it wasn’t without serious pressure. But she took the plunge with no guarantee that the opportunity would come again. Looking back, she told Gabby Logan’s Mid Point podcast, “So I was just like, these two things might only ever happen this time around, in 2012. This might be the year that these things will only ever come to me.”
There were no illusions about how tough it was going to be. The juggling act between early morning television and raising a newborn wasn’t easy, but she tried to keep herself going with a mindset of gratitude. “That’s the only way that I could do this,” she said. “To say to myself every single day, ‘How lucky am I? How lucky am I? How lucky am I?’ I have a job I’ve always wanted, and I have the baby I’ve always wanted. Aren’t I lucky? Aren’t I lucky? Aren’t I lucky?”
But as she relived those memories on the podcast, she became visibly emotional. Her voice cracking, she said, “And that is the only mantra that could… I’m going to cry.” Holding back tears, she added, “It’s the only thing that could get me through the tiredness and sometimes the loneliness — ‘I’m so lucky.’”
Ranvir’s personal life was also going through major changes. She married her son’s father, Ranjeet Singh Dehal, in January 2012, but they separated just seven months into her pregnancy. Despite that heartbreak, she kept going — and eventually found love again. In December 2021, she confirmed she was in a relationship with Louis Church, whom she met while appearing on Strictly Come Dancing, where he worked behind the scenes.
Since joining Daybreak in 2012, Ranvir has become a familiar face on ITV. When Good Morning Britain replaced Daybreak in 2014, she remained a core part of the team and has frequently co-presented the show. She also pops up on ITV News and often fills in for Lorraine Kelly on her morning programme.
In 2020, she took on a new challenge by joining the eighteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing, wowing viewers as she danced her way to the semi-finals with Giovanni Pernice and finishing in fifth place.
Now 47, Ranvir’s story is a raw and honest glimpse into what it took to build her career while raising a child alone — a story of determination, love, and never letting go of the things that matter most.
