Without further ado, let's get into it!
Your frequently asked questions, answered

Not sure what to expect? Here are the burning questions about the upcoming Nintendo Direct answered.
What is a Nintendo Direct?
A Nintendo Direct is one of the main ways that Nintendo shares information about upcoming product releases with consumers. Often presented in the form of a live stream or live show, a Direct most commonly contains trailers for video games that are coming to Nintendo consoles. Occasionally, they can also reveal hardware - be that something like the Nintendo Switch 2, or a smaller project like the Nintendo Alarmo.
When is the next Nintendo Direct?
The next Nintendo Direct takes place today, September 12, and is set to kick off in a few hours at 6am PT / 9am ET / 2pm BST / 3pm CEST.
How long is the next Nintendo Direct?
The company has confirmed that the next Nintendo Direct will last roughly 60 minutes, which is longer than most.
What will be shown in the next Nintendo Direct?
Nintendo has confirmed that we will see a mix of upcoming Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 games.
The memes are pouring in
It wouldn't be a Nintendo Direct without users taking to social media to post all kinds of jokey predictions and memes.

Will we see a smattering of new Resident Evil games?

Recent leaks suggest that many titles in the Resident Evil series are heading to Nintendo Switch 2.
This includes the upcoming instalment Resident Evil Reqiuem, plus older games such as the the remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 plus Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, and Resident Evil Village.
If this rumor is accurate, we might see a few of these titles popping up later today. I'm personally hoping that at least 7 makes the leap, as it's my favorite entry in the series and I'm itching for a replay.
Hopefully if they do come over we'll get a low-price collection containing them all - something akin to the Resident Evil: Origins Collection for the original Nintendo Switch.

A surprise Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Nintendo Switch 2 trailer?

As a big first-person shooter player, I've been thinking a lot about the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Will it be getting a Nintendo Switch 2 release? I wouldn't bank on it.
Although Microsoft promised to release future Call of Duty games on Nintendo platforms during its Activision Blizzard acquisition, this has yet to materialize.
The latest leaks also suggest that Black Ops 7 will skip the Nintendo Switch 2 entirely, so don't expect a trailer for it any time soon.
How will Nintendo celebrate Mario's big day?

This Nintendo Direct is taking place just one day before the 40th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. series, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are some goodies themed around the iconic red plumber in store for us.
Nintendo went all-out for the series' 35th anniversary five years ago, revealing the criminally underrated Super Mario Bros. 35, the cool limited edition Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros handheld, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Super Mario 3D All-Stars, and more!
Hopefully we'll see a few similar announcements today. I would love a re-release of Super Mario 3D All-Stars updated for Nintendo Switch 2, or a new version of Super Mario Galaxy 2.
Is another Mario movie on the cards?

NBC Universal recently registered a bunch of domain names including supermariogalaxy.movie, suggesting that a new Super Mario Bros. Movie themed around the Galaxy games is on the cards.
Interestingly, some supposed Old Spice x Super Mario Galaxy Movie crossover goods were leaked some time ago - though many doubted their authenticity. In light in these domain registrations, it turns out that they might actually have been real.
Will its name be confirmed today? It seems possible, especially with the Super Mario Bros. anniversary right around the corner.
Get ready! There's just half an hour to go...

The next Nintendo Direct is set to begin in just half an hour so now is the time to start making some final preparations.
I'd recommend grabbing a drink and maybe a cheeky snack, as this is presentation is going to be a little longer than usual. I'll personally be sipping on some black coffee throughout.
The stream is now live and I'm seeing lots of abstract shapes. As you can probably imagine, the viewer numbers are starting to tick up. We're currently at 80,000, and it's rapidly gaining!
Okay... just 15 minutes to go - brace yourself!
The stream is officially starting!
Not got it open on your screen right now? I've got you covered.
Tune in below:
The announcements begin!
And our first announcement seems to be something Super Mario related!

We're kicking things off with a look at all things Super Mario Bros anniversary!
Miyamoto is on screen wearing a rather nice Super Mario shirt!.

We're starting out with some updates regarding the Nintendo Museum that will be based around the anniversary.

The next Super Mario Bros movie is being shown!

As I predicted earlier, we're getting a look at the next Super Mario Bros movie! And yep, it's called The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Chris Pratt will be returning as Mario, with Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach too. Jack Black is back as Bowser, along with other original cast members.

We're getting some Super Mario Galaxy ports! That's right, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are coming to Nintendo Switch (and by extension Nintendo Switch 2)!
Hopefully we'll see some Nintendo Switch 2 features implemented. I'd kill for mouse controls!

They're both coming out on October 2 this year! Physically and digitally.
On top of that, we're looking at two new Amiibo releases on February 4.

The games have been updated a little bit too it seems, with Rosalina's story book from Galaxy 2 now appearing in both games plus new pages added!
The book will also be released as a physical item.
The only downer is that there's seems to be no distinct Switch 2 version this time.

Mario Tennis Fever is our first big new game reveal! That's the Mario sports game that I was predicting.
I have to say it looks pretty fun, with a few new mechanics to keep things interesting.

The game seems to take lots of elements from Super Mario Wonder, including a mode with a talking flower commentator! That's pretty cool.

Oh that's pretty cool! There's a story mode, in which every character turns into babies.
It comes out on February 12 next year!

Super Mario Wonder is getting a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition!
It will feature the new Meetup in Bellabell Park DLC.

The expansion has a new map and a bunch of new modes! Though I have to say I'm not too impressed with the name - it seems a bit clunky.
Hopefully this is going to release pretty soon. Maybe it will even be a shadow drop today...

The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will be coming out in Spring 2026. That's a long wait.

A new physical product too! A cute Talking Flower that actually talks. It'll be coming out next spring.
The final Mario reveal is here
We were just told that this will be the last Super Mario related announcement, and it certainly looks like a new Yoshi game from what I can see.

Wow, this game looks cute! It features some adorable hand-drawn looking animation.

That new Yoshi game is officially called Yoshi and the Mysterious Book and will be out in spring 2026.
That's the end of the Mario segment. That was almost exactly twenty minutes. Now it's time for 40 minutes of regular announcements.

Our first game is an indie called Storm Lancers. It's got couch co-op, and lots of side-scrolling action.
It's coming to Nintendo Switch today, so you can grab it soon if you're keen.

It's time for our first farming game - Dinkum!
It's got co-op and a big world inspired by the Australian outback. You can upgrade your town too, and chat with NPCs.
Not my cup of tea really, but it will probably find a big audience! It'll be a timed console exclusive, coming November 5.

Here's a game I recognize! Popucom. It's out already on PC, and it's basically co-op Splatoon meets Puyo Puyo.
A great fit for Nintendo Switch, I think. It'll be out later this year.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream release window confirmed

Time for some new footage of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream! We're seeing plenty of the detailed character creator, plus the kinds of activities that the Miis will get up to in the tropical island setting.
I'm personally really looking forward to this one, as a massive life sim fan and lover of the original game.
It'll be coming out Spring 2026! It seems that period is going to be really stacked.
Time for Nintendo Switch 2 reveals
We're now moving on to games that are coming to Nintendo Switch 2 (though do bear in mind that some are still going to come to the original Switch, too)!
Mortal Kombat is coming soon

First up is the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, which will come out digitally on October 30!
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade comes next year!

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade has been shown, and it's going to be released on January 22, 2026.

A little indie now called Lynked: Banner of Spark! It's a roguelike with cute graphics and it'll be available to play later today.
It's Hades 2 time!

I'm seeing some Hades 2 action! This new animated trailer is absolutely stunning.
The long-awaited indie roguelike is going to here with a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 edition that will run at up to 120fps! It's coming out on September 25, 2025.

It's Amiibo time! There are some cute Kirby Air Riders figures on the way. Interesting, you'll be able to swap some parts of them.
They'll be here on November 20, 2025.
A new Kirby Air Riders Direct is also in the works, but there's no official date yet...

Time for Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment!
We're seeing our first bit of the game's UI and it certainly looks like a Warriors title! Zonai devices will be an important part of combat, bringing powerful elemental effects.
Sync Strikes are also a new feature - allowing you to team up with an ally for a powerful attack.
Split screen co-op has been confirmed too. Hopefully the performance will be okay with two players in the fray!
It's here November 6, with pre-orders set to begin later today. Not long to go, it seems!
A new Dragon Quest game up now potentially! Or maybe a remake? Let's see...

That is indeed a Dragon Quest game! Officially Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined - a remake of the seventh game. It's here on February 5, 2026.

Some Nintendo Today updates next. They're adding a new Kirby theme!

We're getting... Virtual Boy games coming to Nintendo Switch Online? With a dedicated accessory too! It'll be here on February 17, 2025.
That's absolutely nuts.

It's time for a Fatal Frame 2 remake! It looks absolutely gorgeous, with modern graphics that really bring its creepy setting to life.
It'll be here in "Early 2026."
Time for some Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade releases:
- One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4
- Overcooked 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
- Stardew Valley Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
- Human Fall Flat Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
Interestingly that Stardew Valley upgrade comes with mouse controls and co-op.

It's official: PowerWash Simulator 2 will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 near the end of this year.
This is big news if you're keen to scrub down some grimey locations in your spare time.

A new Suica Game title - Suica Game Planet. It's got the same fruit dropping action of the original, but based around new circular environments.
It'll be here in winter for both Switch and Switch 2.

Some Metroid Prime 4: Beyond action!
Samus now has a bike, and we're seeing footage of an absolutely massive open-world looking desert environment.
This isn't like anything we've seen from the game before, but it looks like a lot of fun. Now I'm just hoping we're about to get a release date...

It's coming out on December 4, 2025. We're getting some Amiibos to go alongside it too, plus a commemorative book
This looks like some kind of Donkey Kong Bananza DLC...
It's called DK Island and Emerald Rush, and seems to be aimed at those that have finished the game. Will this be a paid release or a free expansion? Let's see...

It's got some kind of almost roguelike mode? This seems really cool, and I can't wait to dive in!
It's out today! And will be a paid DLC.
The main game will also be getting a free demo today.

Time for a Pokemon announcement!
A new Pokemon game where you play as a... Ditto? It looks like some kind of crafting, open world game, which is the last thing I expected from the series.
It's got crafting and the ability to create houses for your little Pokemon friends.
It's called Pokopia and will be out in 2026.

An update regarding Pokemon Legends: ZA now. I'm not seeing any super new, but we're getting another look at its combat system and some big Pokemon.

We'll already knew this, but if you need a quick reminder that game will be out on October 16.

Pokemon ZA Legends Mega Dimension paid DLC has just been revealed in a cool animated trailer.
Time for another sizzle reel...
- Danganronpa 2 x 2, some kind of Danganronpa 2 re-release with an additional story added! It'll be there in 2026
- Dynasty Warriors: Origins, plus paid DLC on January 22, 2025

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection now, giving us another look at its story and world. It's here on March 13, 2026.
New sizzle reel time!
With lots of games that have already been revealed:
- Two Point Museum
- Disgaea 7 Complete
- EA Sports FC 26
- Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD Remake
- Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O World Stage
- Lego Voyagers
- Little Nightmares 3
- Persona 3 Reload

We've got some Resident Evil action, starting with a new trailer for Resident Evil Requiem.

It looks absolutely lovely on Nintendo Switch 2!

More Resident Evil games too! We've got Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Gold Edition and Resident Evil Village Gold Edition are dropping February 27, 2026.

Now time for something to round the show out! I'm thinking Fire Emblem...

That absolutely is a new Fire Emblem game called Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave. It'll be out next year, in 2026.
That's the end of the Nintendo Direct! What did you think of all the announcements?
That's got to be a top tier show for me.
Want to catch up on the events from the show? I've just updated the top of this page with a detailed list of everything that was revealed.
